Cranfield MBA Vincent Choi does not call himself an entrepreneur, despite launching his own business mentoring service, Yniche, along with other Cranfield MBAs in 2012. (You can read about this service in their recent blog post!)

“I don’t think of myself as an entrepreneur,” Choi said. “I really think I’m just out there to make a difference. If other people grant me that title, I’ll take it; if they think I’m providing value to the market, then I’m very flattered.”

For now, Choi said he is comfortable calling himself an aspiring entrepreneur. But before these entrepreneurial ambitions and his Cranfield MBA, Choi worked extensively in accounting in Australia, working in accountant and analyst roles at companies such as Deloitte and Hall Chadwick. He chose to attend Cranfield to change all that.

“One of the big reasons why I did an MBA was to get out of the thinking of an accountant and also try to improve my network in the UK,” Choi said.

He said that he thinks Cranfield was able to provide him with a richer experience and network than other highly-ranked b-schools: “I met some great people that I am still friends with still. We are still quite a tight knit group after two years; we talk quite often,” Choi said.

Also, the Cranfield experience helped Choi to discover and leverage a whole new career as an innovator – although he did not branch out to start his own business directly after graduating. (He said he needed to get back on his feet in the workplace first!)

But after working for energy consultancy Molten in London for about 10 months, Choi said he realized he needed to go for his dream and steer away from “traditional employment.”

Choi said he didn’t even know that this was his dream until already enrolled in Cranfield. Once there, he had the opportunity to discover his own career goals.

“The organizational courses offered at Cranfield were absolutely awesome for that; we talked with career coaches and occupational psychologists,” Choi said. “What I didn’t know I wanted to do actually to go out on my own as an entrepreneur. I really got to know myself better."
