It’s no surprise that EDHEC’s careers service is ranked among the best in the world. Or that the Economist just named EDHEC the number one school in France for opening up new career opportunities.
The school’s CareerSMART program is integrated into the MBA curriculum. It’s personalized. Each student completes up to 50 hours of career coaching, resume workshops and mock interviews, over the course of the 10-month MBA.
“Without CareerSMART, I would not have landed a job at Amazon,” says EDHEC MBA student Théophile Armand.
Prior to his MBA, Théophile worked in sales roles at a French automotive firm in Russia. Through a CareerSMART event at EDHEC’s Nice campus, he met with Amazon MBA recruiters and was introduced to Amazon’s Pathways Program, a three-year leadership development program for MBA grads.
As part of the recruitment process, he secured an operations internship, underwent two days of interviews, and presented to an audience of 12 senior execs.
“Without EDHEC’s support, I may never have made contact with Amazon, and I wouldn’t have done as well during the interview process,” he says. “The CareerSMART program gave me new tools to improve my resume, organize my job search, and increase my visibility online.”
Nina Ni is another EDHEC MBA who joined Amazon after graduation. She quit her consulting job and relocated from China to pursue a career in Europe. She too was introduced to Amazon after an on-campus careers event.
“I submitted my application online after the presentation,” she says. “After an online test and two rounds of campus interviews over two consecutive days, I got the offer.”
She’s not alone. The EDHEC MBA is popular among students looking for international careers. In 2015, 83% of the graduating MBA class found work internationally in 15 countries.
Through consulting projects, companies on campus, networking events and online recruitment chats, students meet recruiters and senior executives from the hottest MBA employers like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Uber, Deloitte, L’Oréal, and Johnson & Johnson.
Slovenian student Martin Gasper relocated from India for the EDHEC MBA, to gain wider business knowledge and a global perspective. He graduates in December. In March, he’ll join Johnson & Johnson. He couldn’t have done it without EDHEC.
“I had great support from EDHEC’s careers service throughout the application, which helped me to be successful,” Martin explains. “At EDHEC, they really know you as a person. As soon as you enter the program, they get to know your background and your goals.”
While Martin’s changing country and company after his MBA, he’s staying in the same pharma industry he’s known for almost a decade. But the EDHEC MBA opens up diverse opportunities for career development further down the line.
Martin took the entrepreneurship track during his MBA. He visited the US, and sat in on real pitches in front of venture capitalists in Silicon Valley. And he took the opportunity to present his own business plan, for a startup selling high-quality Slovenian honey infused with herbs. “It’s definitely in my mind to work on it in the future,” he says.
EDHEC’s head of MBA career services Sandra Richez is satisfied with the CareerSMART program’s success. She also credits the two-day interactive workshop with renowned careers expert Daniel Porot which kicks the program off.
“We feel fortunate to have Daniel on campus,” she says. “To inspire the whole class into action, to take the drama out of the job search, and to share creative, unusual tips on how to gain a competitive advantage in the MBA job market.”
