Yale is one of the top schools in the world, and its School of Management's (SOM) MBA is ranked 10th in the world in the Financial Times' 2023 MBA Rankings.

Those with a Yale MBA stand out to employers and have seen a stellar track record of job offers with top salaries. The 2022 employment record shows 96.1% of students receiving a job offer within three months with a median salary of $160k.

So, who are the students getting into Yale and onto a path of success? Here, we break down Yale SOM’s class profile data for the class of 2025.

What is the Yale MBA class size and profile?

The Yale SOM MBA class of 2025 has 339 students.

Yale MBA students have an average of 5.1 years of work experience. 24% come from financial services backgrounds, 18% from consulting, and 12% from technology.

The remaining 46% of students come to Yale SOM from careers in government, nonprofit, and healthcare industries.

Yale may have attracted the diverse class due to its integrated curriculum and global opportunities. The Yale SOM curriculum boasts at showing its students a deep dive into the challenges and opportunities of running an organization from multiple perspectives.

A curriculum highlight is a global study week where students visit another business school, study with students from around the world in a virtual international course, or travel for a nonprofit consulting engagement.

The Yale class of 2025 comprises varying identities and personal backgrounds. 48% percent of the class are US students of color, while 18% are underrepresented US students of color. 40% are women, 50% are international passport holders, and 13% identify as LGBTQ+.

Yale's class profile sees 46 countries represented based on primary and secondary citizenship.

What is the Yale MBA acceptance rate?

The Yale MBA acceptance rate for the class of 2025 is 27.6%.

Compared with the acceptance rates at the world's top business schools, Yale SOM sits around the middle, with 11 being higher and 10 being lower.

It is important to note that these are the best business schools in the world, so this is still a highly competitive acceptance rate compared to a wider range of B-schools.

27.5% is less daunting than Stanford's sub-10% MBA acceptance rate, but Yale still saw 3237 applicants, with only 894 admitted.

What are the Yale MBA average GMAT and GRE scores?

The middle 80% of the Yale MBA class of 2025, who submitted GMAT scores as part of their application, scored somewhere between 680 and 760 on the GMAT.

The Yale average GMAT score is 720. This aligns with the average GMAT scores of the Financial Times's top US business schools, whose average GMATs range from 710 to 737.

Beyond an average, it is helpful to know where you fall in terms of percentile. Scoring a combined 700 on Verbal and Quant puts you around the 86th percentile of GMAT test takers, and scoring 750 puts you in the 98th percentile.

Yale's added information on their range is beneficial for test takers and MBA applicants. It shows where most students sit, gives you a broader target to aim for, and that you don't necessarily have to achieve a 700 on the GMAT.

However, if you receive a 680, you will likely want to bolster your application in different ways, such as with relevant work experience or a strong essay and interview.

In terms of the GRE, Yale's class profile has a median verbal of 164 and a median quantitative of 168.

What is the Yale MBA average GPA?

The Yale class of 2025 earned between a 3.3 and a 3.9 average undergraduate GPA, with a median of 3.64.

This represents a wide range of undergrad performances amongst the current enrolled students. A 3.9 is an undergrad with near-perfect, straight-As, whereas a 3.3 leaves room for some Bs and maybe even a C.

Again, this proves that Yale's admissions committee looks at the whole application when accepting students. The program is competitive, but there is room for diverse backgrounds and experiences.
