UNC Kenan Flagler joins the likes of University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management, and Emory University Goizueta Business School in launching MiM programs, a degree type which has historically been more popular in Europe than the US. There are currently no US business schools ranked among the world’s top 10 MiM degrees by the Financial Times.
The program, which is designed for students without prior business knowledge who have recently graduated from undergraduate degrees, will provide students with a holistic understanding of business fundamentals.
In line with other MiM programs, the curriculum will cover areas including marketing, finance, strategy, leadership, accounting, and operations. Students will also have the opportunity to specialize in finance or marketing as they progress through the course.
The curriculum will be bolstered with practical and experiential learning opportunities, including a capstone course requiring students to work in teams on consulting projects for real companies.
“Our Master of Science in Management program is designed to help recent college graduates kickstart their careers in business,” said Courtney Knoll, associate dean of the program at UNC Kenan-Flagler.
Home to an MBA program ranked among the top 40 worldwide by the FT, UNC Kenan-Flagler has an established career development office that will now include a team dedicated to supporting MiM students. Resources and support will include access to industry connections, advice on employment topics such as resume writing and interviewing, and exposure to the UNC Kenan-Flagler alumni network which comprises more than 50,000 professionals in 97 countries.
“It [the program] expands our graduate offerings for those pursuing business careers, giving them a competitive edge in the job market,” added Knoll.
Tuition fees for the first intake are set at $46,923 for in-state students, while those studying from out of state will pay $53,260. These costs place the UNC Kenan-Flagler program at a lower price bracket than Emory Goizueta ($62k), Chicago Booth ($65k) and Kellogg ($66k).
Other business schools offering MiM degrees priced in a similar bracket to the UNC Kenan-Flagler MiM include University of Michigan Ross School of Business ($53k for in-state, $58k for out-of-state) and Georgetown University McDonough School of Business ($57k).
