The ten best performing students on the course, which started in May, had the opportunity to take part in an assessment centre from which two students were selected for a six-week summer internship with the ECM team at Citi.
The elective aims to give students a through understanding of the challenges of raising equity capital, ranging from the ins and outs of IPOs, season equity offerings, and rights issues.
This summer It was led by Mario Levis, Cass Professor of Finance, alongside Senior Managing Directors from Citi’s Equity Capital Markets Origination (ECM) Team, and consists of six three-hour sessions.
With internship’s with Citi’s ECM team up for grabs at the end of the elective, the students had plenty of motivation to work hard, which was just as well as, in addition to the class, they had to devote time to individual and group study, plus class presentations on a variety of case studies. With both professors and practitioners watching, presentations must have been a more than usually nerve-wracking.
Professor Levis praised the elective, describing it as, “An extremely exciting development for Cass. Our students had access to some of the world’s leading practitioners in capital markets thanks to Citi.” For students, it represented a unique and ground-breaking opportunity to really understand what goes on in the trading floor.
Citi’s regional Graduate Development Manager Yannis Batsakoutsas said that the module showcased Citi’s key principles: "Common Purpose, Responsible Finance, Ingenuity and Leadership.”
