The Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) launched its finance focused MBA last year for the young people destined to run China’s finance industry. Now SAIF is looking for an English slogan to enhance its brand outside China and build it into a world-class school.

Submit an eight-word slogan for SAIF and you could win an iPod. The best slogan will be adopted as SAIF’s official slogan!
SAIF is part of Shanghai’s prestigious Jiao Tong University. You know those incredibly smart Chinese students who graduate with a 4.8 GPA from US schools? Most of them wouldn’t even get into Jiao Tong, which is one of the most competitive universities in the world to gain admission to.

While Antai College of Economics and Management already offered business degrees within Jiao Tong, SAIF was set up in partnership with the Shanghai government with the specific goal of training China’s financial leaders as Shanghai progresses rapidly towards becoming a global financial centre.

Some would argue that it already is. Shanghai raced up five places from 11th to 6th in the Global Financial Centres Index, produced by the Corporation of the City of London and think-tank ZYen.

On the other hand, Zhu Ning, deputy director and professor of finance at SAIF, argued in a recent editorial in China Daily that the country as a whole has some way to go before its finance industry is sufficiently open and competitive to be classified as world class. However he is confident that it will happen: “It’s only a question of time”, he says.

Sooner or later, Shanghai will be up there and SAIF is set to be a destination for anyone who wants to understand China’s finance industry and markets in depth, and network with its movers and shakers.

It’s a challenge to sum that up in eight words. Are there any marketing students out there who can help?
