When people think of doing an MBA in Australia, they usually think of Sydney or Melbourne.
Thanks to its location on Australia’s west coast, the city of Perth has long been a cosmopolitan hub with a diverse population. After all, it’s four hours closer than Sydney by air to the booming economies of the Asia Pacific and India.
The Perth Graduate School of Business, part of Edith Cowan University, offer a range of full-time and part-time business programs, catering to a diverse mix of early- and mid-career professionals, public and private sector managers, and a mix of students from Australia and countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and India.
On Edith Cowan University (ECU)’s website, two MBAs graduates explain why they chose ECU’s MBA program and how it has helped them in their career.
Anna Thisainayagan wanted to gain current thinking in leadership and management to stay competitive in business. At the same time, she wanted to be able to continue working full-time. “ECU’s combination of online research facilities, supportive lecturers and evening classes made ECU’s MBA an easy choice for me”, she says.
Thisainayagan is a manager at Shared Services Western Australia, a portal that provides business and corporate services to be shared by all departments of the Western Australia public sector.
“Each unit encouraged critical thinking and practical application of the theory to workplace environments. The knowledge I’ve gained from my ECU MBA has positively contributed to my most recent achievements, running leadership and culture workshops for participants of the 2009 and 2010 Australia-New Zealand Government Contact Centre Summits in Sydney.”
Brad McManus chose ECU because he wanted to study “at a University that encourages innovation, open mindedness and social entrepreneurship”.
McManus is director of organisational capability at leadership and management consultancy Integral Development.
“The knowledge I gained through my studies at ECU is priceless”, he adds. “I’ve applied what I have learned in a number of senior executive roles here in Australia and internationally. My learning experience with ECU has contributed directly to my success including being recognised in the WA Business News 40under40 Hall of Fame and receiving the prestigious 2011 Future Summit Australian Leadership Award”.
