Tharshan Sreetharan enrolled on the Edith Cowan MBA in order to branch into management consultancy and business leadership roles and gain the credibility he needed to manage business and software engineering professionals.

Since graduating in 2008, the Sri Lankan native built his career up to Head of Business Consulting and Operations for a major IT solutions and consulting services provider based in Sri Lanka.

Prior to his current role, Tharshan held other business analysis and management roles in Sri Lanka, Australia and in the US for large IT service providers and banking and financial services providers.

Tharshan, who gained his Bachelors in Information Technology and Software Engineering from Edith Cowan University in 2002 was interested in how his IT knowledge could be translated into making businesses more efficient and so decided to invest in an MBA.

In his most recent role, Tharshan has engaged with clients requiring bespoke software solutions in the financial services and healthcare industries, both locally and internationally. His objective is to lead a team of about fifty to successfully optimize the business performance of clients.

Tharshan also enjoys training and mentoring his colleagues in business analysis, consulting and delivery management. He runs workshops on these topics at his company.

When BusinessBecause spoke with Tharshan, he told us that he was in the process of transferring to a new role in business consulting and delivery management in Australia. He’ll be based in Melbourne and will be working to ensure that the goals of client projects are met, including ensuring project objectives are aligned to the client's strategic objectives and setting up processes and practices across the enterprise.

He says that his professional certifications in Project Management (PMP), IT Service Management (ITIL), Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) and Certified Scrum Master (CSM) together with his MBA and degree in IT help him gain the trust of clients, co-workers and managers.

“The MBA helps me a lot when it comes to tackling problems. I can think wider but more strategically and it helps me analyze my options in stressful situations”, he says.

Tharshan chose the Edith Cowan MBA because of the course content, and the steep learning curve. Of all the places Tharshan has lived, he says Australia feels closest to home even though it takes 13 hours to fly to Perth and 16 to Melbourne!

He loves the “multicultural setting” and has gained permanent residency in the country. He hopes to work on a large program that ties Sri Lanka and Australia together in future.
